The Scottish government is to legislate to ensure care leavers are exempt from paying council tax. Plans to exempt Scottish care leavers from council tax should reduce debt problems, campaigners say. The landmark decision was announced by first minster Nicola Sturgeon at the Scottish National Party’s annual conference this week. She said the move is part of a commitment to “level the playing field for care leavers” and joins other measures, including full higher education grants and guaranteed places at university for those with good grades.
