Knife crime

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Knife Crime has published a report on youth knife crime in England. The report, supported by Barnardo’s and Redthread, compares data collected through freedom of information requests to local authorities on the provision of youth services with police-recorded knife crime statistics. The findings suggest that higher levels of knife crime correlate with cuts to the number of youth centres funded by local authorities, the number of youth centre closures in a local authority area, cuts to numbers of full-time equivalent employees working in youth services for local authorities and overall cuts to youth services spending.
