Calls for register of home-educated children as figures rocket

The children’s commissioner for England is calling for a compulsory register to keep a closer watch over home education, after she discovered levels have doubled in five years.

Off-rolling could be behind surge in home schooling, the children’s commissioner for England has reported. 

The commissioner, Anne Longfield, wants the register to be introduced “without delay”, after she found high numbers with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) were among those who are electively home educated, and their parents struggling to cope with delivering their education.
