Care leavers

What Works for Children’s Social Care has published a report on services provided by English local authorities to care leavers to support their emotional wellbeing. This included a review of existing evidence on mental health services for care-experienced young people and an in-depth qualitative study of the support on offer in five local authorities (LAs). Findings include: considerable variation in services; a preference by care leavers for services tailored to them; and a range of barriers to accessing support. Recommendations include: LAs should seek to improve the consistency and diversity of their support and should focus on both emotional wellbeing and practical support.
