The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Households in Temporary Accommodation has published a report on child deaths in temporary accommodation in England. The report analyses data from the National Child Mortality Database (NCMD) and Mothers and Babies: Reducing Risk through Audits and Confidential Enquiries (MBRRACE-UK). Key findings include: between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2025, 104 children died with temporary accommodation indicated as a contributing factor to their vulnerability, ill-health, or death; and of these 104 children, 76 were under 1-years-old. The report makes recommendations to the government and local authorities, which include: screening for homelessness at the first antenatal appointment; prioritising pregnant women for appropriate housing; and health services proactively contacting all families in temporary accommodation.
