Child sexual abuse

The Centre of expertise on child sexual abuse (CSA Centre) has published key messages from research on looked-after children and child sexual abuse. Key messages include: many children who have been sexually abused have also experienced other abuse such as domestic violence and neglect; children’s behaviour may be a signal of sexual abuse, even where there is no verbal disclosure; children in care who appear to have been trafficked may still face manipulation and exploitation by the trafficker; and placement stability and consistency of the key worker and carer are essential to build trust and confidence in children who have been sexually abused.
