The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) has published a report following its inquiry into the extent to which the Church of England and the Church in Wales protected children from sexual abuse in the past and the effectiveness of current safeguarding arrangements. The report finds that: there were 390 convicted offenders associated with the Church of England from the 1940s until 2018; 449 concerns were reported to the Church about recent child sexual abuse in 2018, of which more than half related to church officers; and that the culture of the Church of England facilitated it becoming a place where abusers could hide.
