The Lancet has published a journal article summarising the findings of a global study into the domestic abuse of women and girls. The research was conducted between 2000 and 2018 and captures the responses of 2 million women and girls (aged 15 years or older) from 161 countries and areas around the world. Findings include: more than one in four women and girls worldwide experienced domestic violence before the age of 50; in the youngest age cohort of 15 to 19, 24% of women and girls are estimated to have experienced intimate partner violence in their lifetime; and domestic violence was less prevalent in high-income countries.
