Domestic Abuse Bill 2017-19

The government has published its response to the report from the Joint Committee on the Draft Domestic Abuse Bill for England and Wales which made recommendations to ensure that children who witness or experience domestic abuse are treated as victims and provided with specialist support. The Bill had its first reading in the House of Commons on 16 July 2019. It introduces the first statutory definition of domestic abuse, creates the role of Domestic Abuse Commissioner to champion victims and survivors, and provides for statutory guidance to recognise the effect of domestic abuse on children.
