Ending child imprisonment

Article 39 has launched a collaborative campaign to end child imprisonment in England. The campaign proposes to: press for the closure of England’s child prisons; seek changes to law and practice so that deprivation of liberty is a measure of last resort; push for responsibility for detained children to be moved out of the government department that deals with adult imprisonment; establish a child welfare-based and human rights compliant secure model for children who cannot be looked after and supported safely in the community.
