The Children’s Commissioner for England has published part one of the Independent Family Review which explores children’s and families’ perspectives on family life, including the experiences of children living in care. Findings from a literature review and surveys include: there is substantial regional variation in families’ access to support services; 80% of adults who say they can rely on their family ‘a lot’ if they have a serious problem are satisfied with life overall, compared with 66% of those who can’t rely on their family a lot; and 66% of looked after children in England have come into care due to abuse or neglect.
