Government unveils plan to tackle misogyny and violence against girls

Teachers will be given training to identify and address misogyny in the classroom, while high-risk pupils could be sent on behavioural courses as part of the government’s strategy to tackle violence against women and girls (VAWG). The plans unveiled in Freedom from violence and abuse – a cross-government strategy to build a safer society for women and girls, focus on prevention and tackling the root causes of abuse. Under the £20 million package of measures, teachers will get specialist training on how to talk to pupils about issues like consent and the dangers of sharing intimate images, with experts brought in to pilot new approaches, backed by research on what interventions work best.
