Imprisonment of young people as a punishment ‘must end’

A children’s rights campaign is calling for an end to imprisonment of young offenders for punishment and as a deterrent, condemning the practice as “cruel and unproductive”.

Campaigners are calling for a radical overhaul of youth sentencing. 

The End Child Imprisonment campaign – formed by a group of charities – is proposing a radical rethink of youth sentencing, with the secure estate used only for those who present a risk to others or themselves.
