The NSPCC has released figures which show that Childline counsellors delivered 4,636 counselling sessions in relation to loneliness in the year April 2017 to March 2018, a 14% rise on the previous year. Figures show that almost 80% of sessions were with girls, some of whom shared concerns about the harmful effects of social medial use and how comparing themselves to others online made them feel increasingly isolated.
