Mental health and body image

The Health and Social Care Committee has published a report which explores body image dissatisfaction and the potential harm from online content, including its impact on children. The report included evidence from lived experience witnesses, who spoke about body image issues starting in childhood which were often exacerbated by social media and online advertising and in some cases led to the development of mental and physical health conditions. The Committee calls for the government to bolster the healthy child programme and introduce annual holistic health and wellbeing assessments for every child and young person.
