The ONS estimates one in five people now aged 18 to 74 suffered or witnessed at least one form of emotional, physical and sexual abuse before the age of 16. The survey also estimates that around one in 13 adults aged 18 to 74 were victims of sexual abuse before the age of 16 and four in 10 victims of child abuse experienced more than one type of abuse. The data was compiled by the Department for Education (DfE), National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC), National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) and the Welsh government.
