Psychologists highlight importance of play among young children

The British Children’s Play Survey, published earlier this week, revealed that parents are not allowing their children out alone to play until they are nearly 11 years old. In comparison, parents said that on average they were given the same independence at the age of nine. Commenting on the findings, which are based on the views of almost 2,000 parents, the British Psychological Society (BPS) said that play is “critical” for children’s development and wellbeing.
