Schools and Youth Mental Health: A briefing on current challenges and ways forward

Education and youth ‘think-and-action’ tank LKMco and school mental health organisation Minds Ahead have published a report looking at the role of schools in addressing children and young people’s mental health care. The report includes the views of experts in the field along with findings from academic research, and makes 15 recommendations including: a new school-based mental health development programme should be set up to provide a new source of pre-clinical mental health specialists to work in schools and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) teaching in relation to pupil wellbeing should be delivered solely by teachers with the skills and expertise to handle sensitive issues.
