Secure schools to launch as early as 2019

Two pilot “secure schools” could be up and running in the next two years as part of efforts to improve safety in the youth secure estate and reduce reoffending, youth justice minister Phillip Lee has said.

Government plans to pilot two secure schools, intended to have a greater focus on education and rehabilitation, were first announced in December 2016, on the back of recommendations made in Charlie Taylor’s review of the youth justice system.
