The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has published a report on torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment in the UK, including sections on child trafficking and exploitation, child sexual abuse, and use of restraint on children. Findings include: there has been a rise in the use of pain-inducing restraint in youth custody in England and Wales over the last decade and the UK government guidance on the use of force in schools does not provide sufficient safeguards against abuse. Recommendations include: prohibit all forms of physical punishment of children and strengthen the capacity of local police forces to prevent and respond to child sexual abuse.
