Why plans to sell off city council-run nurseries in Birmingham have been put on hold

A plan to sell off Birmingham’s council-run nurseries to private childcare providers has been put on hold.

Council chiefs were due to come to a decision on the matter today (Friday, September 28) following claims it is no longer financially viable for the city council to run its own nurseries.

However, the bombshell plans have been halted after the GMB Union, which represents nursery workers, stepped in with a last minute alternative proposal.
