The Government has published a policy paper laying out a framework for the development of a UK-wide child poverty strategy. Key areas the strategy will focus on include increasing family incomes; reducing costs of essentials such as housing, energy and food for low income families; and providing local support, focusing especially on children’s early years. The 10-year strategy, due for publication in 2025, will be guided by an internationally recognised measure of poverty. The paper also sets out key partners and how the voices of families, anti-poverty organisations and local leaders will be put at the centre of the Child Poverty Taskforce’s work to develop the strategy.
