Children in care

The charity Become has published a new report revisiting the topic of children in care in England being placed far from home. The report examines what has changed since the last report and what changes the charity believe are still needed. Findings from available data and a Freedom of Information request to the Department for Education show: almost 18,000 children are living more than 20 miles from home, representing 1 in 5 children in care; children placed over 20 miles away are more likely to have significantly lower wellbeing than those placed closer to home; and children in care are living further away on average, than they were a year ago.
