Kinship has published a report exploring the experiences of Black and Asian kinship carers in England. The report draws on standardised assessments and interviews with 37 Black and Asian kinship carers. Key findings include: the majority of carers felt a deep sense of duty and expectation to care for their kin, with some fearing children’s services intervention; carers did not always know who to contact or how to access support; and some carers felt that their ethnicity or racism influenced professionals’ decisions and described examples indicating a lack of cultural competence. The report makes recommendations for improved practice and support to Black and Asian kinship carers and their families.
