The Children’s Commissioner for England has published a research report looking at the experiences of siblings in care. Findings from a new analysis of available data include: an estimated 37% of children with a sibling in care in England have been separated from a sibling; of sibling groups who were split up 39% were split between two different local authorities; and 2% were split between three or more different local authorities. The Commissioner calls for the Department for Education (DfE) to introduce legislative change to ensure that children are placed with their siblings whenever it is in their best interests, and have contact with siblings if they are separated.
