The Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland and Queen’s University Belfast have published a report on trauma informed approaches (TIA). The research looks at implementation, outcomes and perceived benefits of TIA based on findings of a literature review, survey of statutory and voluntary organisations, focus groups with professionals and case studies. Key findings show that trauma informed approaches offered a wide range of long and short-term benefits for service users and their family networks, such as improved relationships with providers and access to the right support at the right time. There were also benefits for staff and organisations. Recommendations include a government mandate and trauma-informed strategy for Northern Ireland.
