Shelter has published a report on the lives of homeless families in England. Findings from a survey of over 800 homeless families include: some families were inappropriately accommodated alongside people who could pose a risk to the children’s safety; and many parents reported that temporary accommodation had a negative impact on their children’s mental health. Recommendations include: invest in permanent social housing; and change guidance so households who have spent a year or more in temporary accommodation are offered priority help to access a suitable private rental.
