Food poverty

The National Food Strategy has published part one of a government commissioned report looking at the food system in England. Recommendations include making sure disadvantaged children are not left behind by: expanding free school meals to 1.5 million more 7 – 16-year-olds in households claiming universal credit benefit; expanding the holiday activity and food programme; and expanding the Healthy Start fresh fruit, milk and vegetables voucher scheme for pregnant mothers.
