Modern slavery

ECPAT UK has published findings from a participatory research study with young people who have experienced modern slavery. The research explores what positive outcomes look like for these young people, and how they can be achieved. Young people identified 25 outcomes as being important to them, which contributed to the development of a new framework. Recommendations for the UK Government include: all decisions about children in individual cases and in the development of law and policy should be made with their best interests as the primary consideration, child victims of trafficking should always be treated as children first and afforded their rights to the protection and care they need, and children identified as potential victims of slavery and trafficking should be promptly assigned an independent legal guardian.
