The Commission on Young Lives has published a report looking at school exclusion and its links to exploitation and other adverse outcomes. The report summarises current data and research around schools exclusions, including: there has been a gradual rise in the number of permanent exclusions from schools in England; a disproportionate number of Black children are not attending or are excluded from school; and the majority of children who have been cautioned or sentenced for an offence have received a suspension from school. Recommendations include: a new national team of regional development advisors to work with schools, local authorities and health agencies to support the implementation of inclusive schools in every area; and a new requirement for every school to publish their inclusive ‘education for all’ strategy and report annually on any children who have been excluded or moved from the school roll.
