University College London (UCL) and Every Child Protected Against Trafficking (ECPAT UK) have published a report on lone children seeking asylum in the UK and the risks of trafficking and exploitation when placed in Home Office hotels, compared to other accommodation. Based on interviews with young people and professionals involved in their care, such as social workers and lawyers, the report discusses: the conflict between the legal frameworks and duties owed to children and migration policy; the use of hotel accommodation for children seeking asylum and the risks of human trafficking and re-trafficking; and the adultification of children seeking asylum. It also provides policy recommendations.
